Our Relationship With the Trinity

Christians submit to and follow God.

1. SUBMIT TO THE FATHER
A. Humble Yourself
James 4:
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
……. Submission: this word simply means we place our will under his authority, then respect his authority by acting according to his instructions and desires. Submission requires humility. There has to be a knowing that “I can’t do this on my own.”
…….We can’t do one without the other. The closer we get to God, the further we stay away from the desires of the flesh.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.
…….We must take advantage of the opportunity that has been made available to all. There was a time when no one but the high priest could enter the presence of God, but now we all have the access! Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
…….As we hear from God, we are to wash and purify ourselves, inside and out. Just as the ritual and ceremonial cleansing in the Old Testament times (Exodus 30:20-21), we are to wash ourselves and ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse us inside and out as we seek relationship with our Lord.
…….If the Spirit says to get rid of it, GET RID OF IT! There is no way around it, we will gain no ground whatsoever until the sin or weight is gone!
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
……. At the realization of sin in our lives, we are to be broken and stay in that very state until we are purified by the Holy Spirit. Too many church people today have become calloused by and with the sins that hold them back.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
……. So many people seek to be lifted up by man today, pats on the back and recognition from a Pulpit. The only time the Lord will lift man up is when we are found in complete humility. Only then are we able to bear the recognition of his work.

B. Live in Submission
Matthew 7:
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
……. No matter the accomplishments we’ve made, or the status that follows our name, until we find ourselves in the will of Our Lord, we will never find ourselves approved for his great inheritance.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
…….Many of us that spend a lifetime spinning our wheels for the work of ministry but never spin the wheel that was selected for us, could very well find ourselves unknown of the Lord at that great judgement day.
I don’t want to be a substitute Christian! Someone that’s only there to temporarily hold up the Ministry. I want to be a pillar for the Body of Christ!

Luke 11:
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed (Holy and Consecrated) be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
……. Living in submission comes with The Knowing of how sacred and hallowed his name is. He is The Lord (Supreme Authority) of everything in heaven and on Earth.

2. FOLLOW THE SON
A. Follow Wholeheartedly
Matthew 16:
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
……. Think about the part that instructs us to deny ourselves. We all know the struggle that takes part in denying the desires of the flesh, It can only be done accomplished through the Spirit. Taking up the cross was the example and instruction of completing his will in our lives. The work at times will be excruciatingly painful, but the reward will always point others to Christ.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
…….While the physical cross brought death to the flesh, the Spiritual cross brings death to the desires of the flesh and allows us to focus completely on the will of the Spirit. Only then will we find perfect peace.

Luke 14:
26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
……. Jesus also described in startling terms the extent to which we must go to crucify the Flesh and following him. Obviously, he was not referring to hatred in the sense in which we view the term, that would be a contradiction of his entire Ministry. Jesus Is telling us that nothing, nor any one person should be able to get in the way to distract our loyalty to him.
Jesus is instructing us to not take his will lightly, but follow him wholeheartedly.
27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

B. Submit to His Leading
Matthew 11:
25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
……. The Wisdom (people of great intellect) of this world may never see the revelation of Jesus Christ. It is an amazing thing to see a person become anointed by God and come to a revealing of the work of the Cross in a person’s life.
The ones who sit back and try to figure out God in the flesh will only fall further away from him.
The word “babes” that Jesus used was simply to describe people who are unlearned of religion.
26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
…….We must at all times, no matter how experienced we become, receive the Gospel in humility and submit to the Lord and embrace his teachings.
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
……. A “yoke” is meant to hold a person or animal against their will and to control them for a specific work. The direction of the yolk was always controlled by the master.
The Yoke of Christ even though enduring at times, can also be used as a place of rest. His yoke is easy as long as we stay under his control and direction.
Along with his yoke comes the empowering of the Holy Spirit which causes all things to be accomplished!

3. RELY ON THE SPIRIT
A. To Be Our Comforter
John 14:
15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
……. In order for the spirit to abide with us, we must learn to completely rely on him.
A helper that is not used will always find his work somewhere else.
We can conclude then that without the Holy Spirit, we would be alone and vulnerable. Such a state is spiritually dangerous.
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
……. If you’ve ever experienced the Holy Spirit working in your life, you will never forget Him, and always desire Him.

B. To Help Us Bear Godly Fruit
Galatians 5:
16 This I say then, Walk (in the Hebrew, to live) in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
……. The Holy Spirit is not meant to simply give us a boost here in there, but to continue with and in us our entire life. Live in the Spirit.
17 For the flesh lusteth (strong desires) against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
……. The Flesh and the Spirit are at a continuous Warfare in our lives. The one that overcomes will always be left to our choice.
18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness (uncontrollable lust),
20 Idolatry, witchcraft (giving way to any other Spirit, rebellion), hatred, variance (contention, debate, strife) emulations (passionate jealousy), wrath, strife, seditions (division), heresies (choosing sides in division),
21 Envyings (spiteful), murders, drunkenness (intoxicated by anything of the flesh), revellings (indulging in late gossip and division), and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
